Group teaches homeless how to squat in vacant buildings

3/26/2012

Ever wanted to become a successful squatter? If so, a Bronx-based nonprofit group called Picture the Homeless is offering a crash course on how to break into vacant city-owned buildings, according to the New York Post. "The best time to enter a building is in the late hours," board member Andres Perez recently advised a group. He also instructed them how to fill out change-of-address forms and set up utilities, while offering this advice: "You make sure you have your proper tools. You remove the chains and padlock, and then you go in." The nonprofit, which says its mission is to campaign for social justice, has reportedly gotten at least $240,000 in taxpayer money in the past five years.
