City swaps flu shots for guns in strange public safety event
12/3/2012Times are tough right now, and public services need to be combined where there's a natural fit. Like with guns and flu shots, for instance. City officials in Worcester, Mass., have taken advantage of the obvious pairing between deadly weapons and immunizations by offering their residents free flu shots at their annual Goods for Guns event. For the first two Saturdays in December, the Worcester Police Department bizarrely announced, health staff will be on hand to administer seasonal vaccinations to sneezy gun owners. (Residents can get a flu shot at the exchange whether or not they turn in a gun; gift certificates of up to $75 are only provided to citizens who turn in a gun). Finally, a place to drop off your Colt .45 and ward off the sniffles all at the same time.
