School goes on lockdown after gun is found in second-grader's backpack

1/18/2013

A school in New York City was placed on lockdown for several hours Thursday after a .22-caliber handgun was found in the backpack of a second grader. The gun was not fired, and no one was injured. However, police called to Wave Preparatory Elementary School in Far Rockaway, Queens, weren't sure why the student had the weapon. Once the gun was discovered, students were ordered to return to their classrooms. Several recounted waiting for hours and being afraid of what was going on outside. Fifth grader Javier Ferrufino said, "I thought we were going to get killed." [Source]
