Hackers massacre hordes in terrifying siege (of 'World of Warcraft')

10/8/2012

Orcs and fantasy creatures, beware: Hackers have carried out a mass virtual killing spree, wiping out hordes of characters at a time in the online game “World of Warcraft.” The culprits appear to have found a way to "roll" a beginner character — essentially creating a new one — enabling them to kill off every single player in that character's city, as well as destroying those controlled by the game. Reps from Blizzard Activision, the game's creator, said they are taking the attack seriously, adding it's already been hot-fixed (changing the code to fix the bug) and shouldn't be repeatable. In the meantime, we're guessing a lot of human beings are discovering it is October and getting outside for the first time in months. [Source]
