Did a cat come in third in a Virginia Senate race?
11/9/2012Short answer: probably yes. We mentioned Hank the Cat's campaign for a U.S. Senate seat in February, when his run was announced. Now it looks like it was more successful than it had any right to be: Hank, "a Maine Coon who ran on a pro-feline, job-creation platform," seems to have placed third, behind actual human beings Tim Kaine (the winner) and George Allen (who took second place by about 184,000 votes). As the National Constitution Center reminds us, history has been made with fewer votes — Lyndon Johnson won his first U.S. Senate race by only 27 votes. [Source]
