Tiny Texas town comforted by armed teachers

12/21/2012

What Tennessee and Virginia have just started talking about is a standing policy in Harrold, Texas. The tiny town has allowed  teachers to carry concealed weapons to school since 2007. Armed teachers mingle with the 103 kindergarten-12th grade students. At least one parent, CaRae Reinisch, has moved her children to the smaller school specifically because the teachers have weapons. The nearest sheriff is 30 minutes away, and the school employees who carry weapons undergo crisis intervention training and use bullets that "minimize the risk of ricochet" after being approved by a special review board. Said Reinisch, "I think it's a great idea for trained teachers to carry weapons, but I hate that it has come to this." [Source]
