Hey there, folks in the Northern Hemisphere, did you notice the moon last night? The harvest moon (the traditional term for the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox) rose, lingered and was extremely photogenic as you can see from these incredible shots. If you noticed a warm gold, yellow or red shade, that’s a special effect of the moon appearing so low against the horizon and picking up the atmospheric tones that give sunsets their color. If you missed it, enjoy these pictures, and be sure to watch for the hunter’s moon — the first full moon after the harvest moon — in October. It gets its name because a bright moon is ideal for hunters shooting migrating birds or tracking animals.
