Harvey Milk International Airport might be SFO's new name
1/15/2013There are airports named after presidents (JFK in New York), musicians (Louis Armstrong in New Orleans) and war heros (O’Hare in Chicago). Why not a champion of civil rights? David Campos, an SF city supervisor, introduced a proposal to rename San Francisco International Airport in honor of Harvey Milk, a prominent LGBT rights activist and former city supervisor who was shot and killed in 1978. Campos said that renaming the airport would send a message about the worldwide struggle for equality for LGBT persons. If Campos get five other supervisors to support the measure, it will be put before voters in November. [Source]
