Has-been Stephon Marbury is getting bronzed in China
4/11/2012Stephon Marbury's NBA career was one of wasted potential. For all his undeniable talent, Marbury's enigmatic behavior led to a disappointing career that never lived up to immense expectations. Since leaving for China in 2009, Marbury has made a remarkable turnaround, becoming one of the most beloved athletes in that country. This season, Marbury capped a stellar campaign by leading the Beijing Ducks to their first Chinese Basketball Association championship. Because foreign players are ineligible for the league's MVP awards, more than one million fans signed an online petition to produce a bronze statue honoring Marbury, and a clay model of him holding the championship trophy has already been produced, awaiting bronzing.
