Health department ponders banning happy hour, fun
4/29/2012New York has never been a cheap place to get drinks, but the Department of Health might make things even pricier if they go through with a recent proposal to ban happy hour. It just SOUNDS wrong, doesn't it? Recent anti-alcohol sentiment is reportedly at a "fever pitch," with the NY Health Department also eyeing the kill switch on liquor in ice cream. Geez, why not just cut out the middle man and just outlaw fun! Commissioner Thomas Farley wants to reduce alcohol-related hospitalizations in the city, which is all well and good, but will making drinks cost full price 24-7 really deter anyone out for a buzz, or simply lighten recession-strapped wallets?
Is this a sensible proposition? Or is the Health Dept. drunk on their own power?
