Dog bound for Phoenix makes an unplanned day trip to Ireland

3/16/2013

You settle into your crate for a nice relaxing flight from your home in Newark, N.J. to Phoenix, looking forward to a pleasant nap, maybe chew on some rawhide. And then you wind up in Ireland. That’s where 6-year-old English springer spaniel Hendrix found himself after United Airlines loaded him onto the wrong flight. His owner, Megan Grant, got a call about 10 minutes before the flight was scheduled to land. "I felt like somebody punched me in the stomach," she said. "I mean, that's my dog. That's like my child." Alerted to the mistake, United personnel walked and fed Hendrix, finally getting him to Phoenix. The airline apologized and refunded the fare, but that didn't appease Grant. "Obviously they take better care of people's bags than they do dogs," she fumed. "To them it's just an animal. What do they care?" Hendrix was unavailable for comment. [Source]
