Hey, hey, the Monkees will skip Davy Jones’ funeral

3/7/2012

Micky Dolenz told Billboard not to expect the surviving Monkees at Davy Jones' funeral. Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Michael Nesmith would prefer to pay their respects at a series of public memorials in New York and the U.K. (no dates have been announced). Dolenz explained that this decision was made out of respect for Jones' family. "My understanding is they want to avoid a media circus (...)And you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don't think his immediate family would want to deal with." Although rumors of discord within the band swirled when the Monkees canceled the end of their 2011 tour, the surviving members are clearly grieving the loss of their youngest bandmate. "It's like losing a brother," Dolenz confessed.
