High-school dropout gets her diploma — 80 years later
6/8/2012This puts the phrase "better late than never" to the test. A 97-year-old woman has graduated from high school 80 years after she dropped out. "I'm going to be a graduate," Ann Colagiovanni said with tears in her eyes at a ceremony at Cleveland's Shaker Heights High, where her grandson Thomas Vinci also received his diploma the next day. Graduation was a long-held ambition for Colagiovanni, who was forced to quit school and work at her father's meat market during the Depression. Now, before you get too excited and start picturing the grandma standing up on her desk and declaring a panty-raid, we should tell you the diploma she received was an honorary one. Nevertheless, we're giving her an "A" for "Awesome."
Do you think the elderly deserve more credit for living through the Depression?
