Soccer star's mom has stroke while watching him win state title

2/19/2013

It was everything that Leo Klink had dreamed. The senior soccer player scored a goal and nailed his penalty kick in the shootout to lead his Kalani Falcons to the Hawaii state high school championship. But the celebration immediately turned to tragedy when Klink learned that his mother, Hiroyo, had suffered a stroke while watching the game. Klink saw the ambulance arrive, but thought it was for an opponent who'd been hurt in the first half. Hiroyo, who introduced him to soccer, had insisted that Leo keep playing and not worry about her. "It was the mom's wishes," Klink’s coach said. Hiroyo died two days later, but before she did, she learned about her son's success. "The last thing she was told was that we won," Leo said. [Source]
