Statue of Hitler in the Warsaw Ghetto confuses and outrages Jews

12/28/2012

A statue of a Hitler as a child, praying on his knees, is getting mixed reactions in Poland. The statue, titled "HIM," is by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. It's located in the Warsaw Ghetto, where thousands of Jews were killed and more than 250,000 were shipped to concentration camps. Jewish advocacy groups call the statue "a senseless provocation which insults the memory of the Nazis' Jewish victims." The work is installed so it is only visible through a hole in a wooden gate and is meant to comment on "hidden evil," said Fabio Cavallucci, director of the Center for Contemporary Art, which installed the piece. "Every criminal was once a tender, innocent and defenseless child," the center said in a statement. [Source]
