Hockey game goes 12 OTs, causes girls to barf

4/19/2012

Here's how long the hockey game between the Stratford Aces and Chatham Outlaws in Toronto lasted: Coaches resorted to a shootout before their 9- and 10-year-old girls grew into teenagers before their eyes. Actually, it went 12 overtimes - 12! - before Stratford's Emily McFarland managed to dribble in a shot for a 1-0 victory. The girls had resisted a shootout even after 156 minutes of hockey, though McFarland did allow that "I was very tired, and the other team was barfing." So a shootout seemed like a good idea - especially when Stratford had to play two hours later. Oh, and that game went three overtimes before the Aces won. Somewhere in there they had to rotate the tires on the Zamboni, surely.
