Horsemeat found in frozen burger patties said to pose no health risk

1/15/2013

Britain and Ireland shoppers who are looking forward to chowing down on those frozen grocery-store burgers they just bought might want to pause for a second. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland reported that it discovered horsemeat in several brands of frozen burgers sold throughout the countries. In 9 out of 10 burger samples from one Irish chain store, horse DNA was found in the patties, with one sample turning up a whopping 29 percent horsemeat. The Food Safety Authority's chief executive said the meat poses no health risk to the public, but we anticipate an epidemic of "icks" around the dinner table. [Source]
