How a New Jersey woman lost 51 pounds without diet or exercise

7/6/2012

Sadly, the reality is far less fabulous than the implication of our grossly misleading headline. The 65-year-old woman, known only by her given name, Evelyn, shed the weight by having an enormous tumor removed from her abdomen. The fast-growing, cancerous lump had been left untreated for more than a month while Evelyn awaited her 65th birthday and the Medicare that came with it. "She was a skinny lady with a huge belly. I mean it looked like she was literally pregnant with triplets," said Dr. David Dupree, who led the surgery at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, N.J. The tumor had grown so large it was crushing one of the veins returning blood to the heart. and on Sunday evening she became so short of breath that doctors rushed the surgery forward.
