Roman-style Tupperware uncovered in ancient shipwreck
8/9/2012Divers have uncovered the remains of what is believed to be a 2,000-year-old ship off the coast of Genoa, Italy. The wreck has yielded an archeological treasure trove of amphorae, the clay pots used in Ancient Roman times to transport perishable and fragile goods around the empire. Hundreds of the containers have been found, with many of them still sealed. Their contents will provide welcome insight into what people at that time thought was valuable. But we shouldn’t, of course, assume too much. If people from 2,000 years into the future went through our shipwrecks, they would think all we cared about was big-screen TVs and energy drinks. Oh, wait. [Source]
