Hundreds of pigeons vanishing in bird Bermuda Triangle

8/25/2012

This is one mystery that’s for the birds. Scores of racing pigeons have vanished over Northern England, prompting freaked out pigeon racers to call the area a Bermuda Triangle for birds. Last Saturday, a Scottish racing club released 232 birds in the town of Thirsk, in North Yorkshire, England. Only 13 returned. It’s hardly an isolated incident, as hundreds of birds have disappeared since the racing season began in April, with one estimate counting half of the area’s racing pigeons as missing in action. The disappearances have racers stumped, with theories ranging from an abnormal number of summer showers sending the birds off course, to solar-distorted magnetic fields. [Source]
