Healthy-looking students sing about how USDA is starving them

9/25/2012

A group of Kansas teens are protesting the Department of Agriculture's new school lunch guidelines in the most teenager-y way possible: with a YouTube video. "We Are Hungry" is set to the tune of "We Are Young" by Fun. It shows how Wallace County High schoolers suffer because of the lighter calorie loads that are being scooped onto their lunch trays. "Give me some seconds," Callahan Grund sings, "I need to get some food today." High school-aged kids like Grund are limited to 850 calories at lunch under the USDA's Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. We're a little less creeped out by his feta cheese-heavy lunch than we are by the fact that he refers to his teenage "lover" in the first verse. [Source]
