Watch this unusual triple-hit help the Giants reach the World Series

10/23/2012

Hunter Pence is one hell of a talented right fielder and now we can add "amazing three-hitter" to his resume. The San Francisco Giants comfortably advanced to the World Series on Monday night with a 9-0 victory over the St Louis Cardinals in Game 7 of the NLCS. But they were helped by this extraordinary play by Pence in the third inning when a fastball from Joe Kelly broke his bat and the ball took off in an unexpected direction, allowing two runners on base to score. When replayed on a 3,000 frames-per-second camera, Pence’s bat can be seen making contact with the ball on three occasions as it breaks in his hand. At last, “one, two, three…” has had a happy ending for a batter in baseball.
