Devastation of Breezy Point shown in heartbreaking pictures10/31/2012
When New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that certain parts of his city resembled scenes from the aftermath of World War II, he was likely referring to the utter devastation of Breezy Point, Queens. The problem there wasn't just flooding: The oceanside neighborhood saw 111 homes destroyed in a rampaging inferno that firefighters were unable to counter at the height of the storm. The neighborhood — which saw 37 residents perish on 9/11 — reported no injuries in the storm's wake. [Source]
