Illegal immigrant gets kidney transplant, sparking fiery debate
12/11/2012The story of an illegal immigrant who got a kidney transplant has gone viral today, sparking a heated debate. Some are outraged it took eight years for Jorge Mariscal, who moved to the U.S. as an infant, to get his life-saving organ. The surgery, which was paid for by the Loyola University Medical Center, was held up largely because of his immigration status. They point out healthcare is a human right and that his mother was his donor. Others are outraged for a different reason. Facebook user Joanne Bonn said, "Does no one understand the word ILLEGAL??? This man took a kidney that could have saved an AMERICAN. or Legal citizen. We are so screwed up." Facebook user Paul Fertsh said, "This is stupid. He is a criminal.
