In recession, 'breastaurants' still have big, huge profits

6/25/2012

Mugs N Jugs, Twin Peaks, the Tilted Kilt ... they all have two things in common. Chauvinism and patriarchal privilege. JUST KIDDING! Tits and profits, we meant to say. Like Hooters, these restaurants feature classic diner fare served by busty girls in skimpy costumes. And while non-sexualized eateries like Applebee's struggle with the economic downturn, these so-called "breastaurants" are swelling at a hormonally imbalanced rate -- all three growing by 30 percent this year. Twin Peaks is now a $44 million business, and its owner Randy DeWitt credits his shockingly inappropriate hiring procedures. "We hire only spectacular talent. They have to fit into that costume."
