Getting arrested for a Facebook like? That's a real thing now
11/19/2012A 21-year-old Indian woman was swiftly arrested on Sunday for a Facebook comment she wrote. The Mumbai resident (the Times of India did not publish her name), questioned why the city was closed to observe the funeral of political activist Bal Thackeray, writing "people like Thackeray are born and die daily, and one should not observe a [city shutdown] for that." Those words earned her several hours in a cell, joined by a friend who had the audacity to 'Like' the post. The women were charged with "hurting religious sentiments" and, despite deleting the comment and delivering an apology, a 2,000-person mob attacked and ransacked her uncle's orthopedic clinic.
