Legendary Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar has died in San Diego after undergoing heart surgery last week. Shankar, father of singer-songwriter Norah Jones, attained worldwide fame in the 1960s by introducing traditional Indian music to the world, as well as influencing the Beatles and teaching George Harrison how to play the sitar. Harrison described him as "the godfather of world music." He played at Woodstock and organized the 1971 Concert For Bangladesh, regarded as the original rock benefit, which featured Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan and Ringo Starr. His wife Sukanya and daughter Anoushka released a statement announcing his death at the age of 92, stating, "He will live forever in our hearts and in his music." [Source]
