Inmates risk drowning, hypothermia to save lives of three boys2/2/2013
A group of inmates working in a Washington park became heroes after jumping into a rushing creek to save three boys whose kayak had capsized. The three brothers screamed for help as they were carried in the strong current past the Salmon Creek Regional Park. Inmate Nelson Pettis stripped off his heavy jacket and dove into the frigid water, as did Larry Bohn. A third man, John Fowler, took off running through the woods to lead a rescue team toward the creek. After being pulled from the water, the boys and the inmates were all treated for hypothermia. I don’t think we’re heroes,” Fowler said. “I think we just did what any good person would do.” [Source]
