New pipe dream of a bill would tie online commenters to real-life info
2/22/2013A new bill that would require Internet posters to reveal their identities has been introduced into the Illinois Senate by Sen. Ira Silverstein. Called The Internet Posting Removal Act, the bill reads: "[A] web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless the anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post and confirms that his or her IP address, legal name, and home address are accurate." Though online accountability is a good thing, the Internet probably cherishes its privacy too much for this to ever work. But kudos to Sen. Silverstein and his magnificent unicorn of a bill. [Source]
