It's church vs. beer in Twitter survey for US states' priorities
7/7/2012Talk about red states and blue states. A team of data experts surveyed a week's worth of tweets, monitoring them for mentions of "beer" or "church," and when they matched those to the tweeps' locations, they found some notable relationships between the popularity of each term. Notable, if not surprising — it likely won't come as a shock to discover that "beer" came out ahead of "church" in San Francisco (191 to 41), while Dallas showed opposite results ("church" triumphed, 178 to 83.) As the Guardian pointed out, "the clear north/south divide in the Eastern half of the country looks remarkably similar to the red/blue divide shown in recent U.S. presidential elections." Interesting, but we're reserving judgment until after this year's election.
