Your suspicion that air quotes make everyone who uses them look like a condescending jerk has been confirmed. Curling your first and second fingers around your head while you speak has been deemed the most annoying hand gesture in a survey of 2,000 British people. "The 'speech marks' gesture is often used to emphasize sarcasm ... but it's clearly an action that irritates more than it amuses," said a spokesman for Goggle Eyes, a software developer that commissioned the study.
