Jack Brooks, veteran congressman in famous Lyndon Johnson photo, dies
12/5/2012Jack Brooks, a veteran congressman who was part of the Dallas motorcade when President Kennedy was assassinated, passed away Tuesday night at the age of 89. The Texas Democrat also figured prominently in one of the most iconic pictures following Kennedy’s death: the famous photo of Lyndon Johnson being sworn in as president aboard Air Force One. Brooks, who represented a Southeast Texas district in the House of Representatives for 42 years, is seen standing grimly behind Jacqueline Kennedy as Johnson takes the oath of office. The congressman died in a Beaumont hospital after a short illness. [Source]
