Tossing cats may or may not be art, but it certainly ticks people off

We are almost uncomfortable with how much we understand the 20,000 email complaints and physical attacks aimed at Jan Fabre, a Belgian who staged an "art" performance in Antwerp City Hall that involved throwing cats into the air over a tall staircase that was flimsily "padded" with what look like gym mats. It makes us sick to think of the unnecessary injury those cats risked (Fabre insists they are all fine) but the backlash against Fabre is giving the concept of a "tortured artist" a whole new meaning. He’s been attacked seven times by men with clubs out in public and has been forced to move from house to house to avoid outraged cat lovers (and animal cruelty haters) throughout Belgium. [Source]
