Comedian learns her joke Vegas marriage has been legal for 20 years
11/13/2012Comedian Janeane Garofalo recently learned that her joke Vegas marriage didn't — say it with us — stay in Vegas, and that she'd been legally married for the past 20 years. In 1992, a "drunk" Garofalo and her then-boyfriend, writer Rob Cohen, thought it would be hilarious to get husband-and-wife'd at a drive-thru wedding chapel. They had no idea that it would be legally binding for the next two decades, until Cohen wanted to marry his current girlfriend and his lawyer discovered that there was a lingering Janeane-shaped problem. The two were officially divorced on Saturday night, opting for a New York City notary this time, instead of the quickie Vegas option. [Source]
