Japanese political party may build giant anime robots
6/27/2012Gundam are giant robot characters in a popular Japanese anime series. Inexplicably (unless there is a huge, untapped geek vote in Japan we are unaware of), a major Japanese political party is thinking of building an actual Gundam. The Liberal Democratic Party — which ruled Japan for five decades following World War II — is "seriously considering the development of Gundam." This is a horrible idea, unless China has secretly created actual Godzilla monsters. The cost alone (a 2008 estimate of one 60-foot-tall robot was put at $725 million) should make this argument moot, not to mention the impracticality of a lumbering, earth-bound robot.
Is this the worst (or best) policy idea ever?
