Tsunami-ravaged village gets gold in the mail from mystery donor

2/18/2013

Some people truly have hearts of gold. A Japanese fishing village devastated by the 2011 tsunami has been getting gold bars in the mail from an anonymous benefactor. The gifts started arriving in Ishinomaki about 11 days ago, with two tsunami support groups and the local fish market receiving 4.4 pounds of the precious metal each, worth a total of $250,000. There were no return addresses on the parcels, although at least one is believed to originate from the Japanese city of Nagano. That’s Japan for you: a nation so nice they mail each other gold … AND trust the mailman to deliver it. [Source]
