Leno rumored to step aside for Fallon (Jimmy, Conan's on line 1)

3/2/2013

This went so smoothly the first time, why not try it again? Jimmy Fallon's popularity among late-night TV viewers in that ever-important 18-49 demographic is fueling reports that NBC will soon announce that next season will be Jay Leno's last as host of the "Tonight Show." Executives want to move Fallon into the slot, not only to capitalize on his younger numbers but to head off a possible raid by CBS if David Letterman pulls the retirement trigger before Jay. Over at TBS, Conan O'Brien is probably screaming, "Don't fall for it, Jimmy!" after his succession to Leno's throne was scuttled in 2010. Maybe we should wait until "Leno Retires" shows up in one of Jay's "Headlines" segments.[Source]
