Confiscated peanut butter and jelly sandwich sparks Facebook outrage
9/17/2012Who knew the humble peanut butter and jelly sandwich could provoke such controversy? Jenkins Clifton-Jones, a student at a school in Viola, Ark., had his homemade PB&J confiscated in accordance with the school's ban on peanut products. The ban has been in place for six years to protect kids with severe nut allergies. The boy's mother, Denise, discussed the sandwich incident on Facebook and the enusing debate spawned its own fiery Facebook page, "School Nut Ban Discussion." Comments on the issue were so passionate that a language warning was posted. The Viola School District Superintendent has said the school's Wellness Committee will evaluate the policy that saw the offending lunch box item become sandwich non grata. [Source]
