Balloon-built Bag End is a Tolkien of 'Hobbit' fan's devotion

11/10/2012

You may not be able to build castles in the air, but Jeremy Telford built one out of it. Well, at least a hobbit's idea of castle. With 2,600 balloons, 40 hours of time on his hands and an understanding wife, the Utah balloonologist recreated Bag End, the Middle-earth home of Bilbo Baggins, hero of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit." In an epic display of obsessive creativity, Telford crafted the cozy hole right down to the armchair where he could relax with his favorite book. And after admiring it for three days, he turned his kids loose to destroy it and returned to reality. Oh, it is a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. [Source]
