Sandusky sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for child sex abuse
10/9/2012Jerry Sandusky has been sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison for child sex abuse. "The tragedy of this crime is that it's a story of betrayal," Judge John M. Cleland said. "I'm not going to sentence you to centuries in prison, although the law will permit that." The 68-year-old former Penn State assistant coach was convicted in June on 45 counts of abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period, but continued to deny the charges on Tuesday morning. Sandusky gave a "rambling" three-minute monologue, repeating some of the comments that he made in Monday’s audio statement. "The pain continues when I think about the people who made the allegations," he said. "These are people I used to care about and still do." Three of Sandusky's victims spoke at the sentencing. "I am troubled with flashbacks ... that will never be erased from my memory," one said. "Jerry has harmed children, of which I am one of them." [Source]
