This temple near Jerusalem dates back to the Old Testament days
12/27/2012A group of Israeli archaeologists have several months of job security after discovering a previously unknown temple less than five miles from Jerusalem. The temple, which was unearthed at the Tel Motza archaeological site, is estimated to be around 2,750 years old, dating back to the Kingdom of Judah. And based on the clay figures and artifacts found inside, it is believed to have been "the home base for a ritual cult." It's an exceptionally rare find because hardly any ritual buildings from that era remain. "The find of the sacred structure, together with the accompanying cache of sacred vessels … still requires extensive research," the excavation directors said in a statement. [Source]
