Church billboard says it's time for Jesus to 'come out'

12/17/2012

It's been a banner week for Jesus billboards. Just days after an American atheist group urged Times Square shoppers to "dump the myth" during the holiday season, a New Zealand sign notes, "It's Christmas. Time for Jesus to come out." Perhaps more gallingly, depending on your perspective: This is a bit of friendly fire. The billboard, which shows a baby Jesus with a rainbow halo, was designed and sponsored by St. Matthew's-in-the-City, an Anglican church in Auckland. Reverend Clay Nelson says the billboard aims to spark discussion about Jesus' sexual orientation; one of the church's previous billboards depicted Virgin Mary holding a pregnancy test. [Source]
