Researcher says piece of papyrus references Jesus' wife

9/18/2012

There might be more fact than fiction to "The DaVinci Code." A historian studying early Christianity at Harvard says she's found a small piece of papyrus that makes a reference to Jesus having a wife. Karen L. King translated eight lines written in Coptic on a scrap only a few inches wide and found a line that read, "Jesus said to them, 'My wife … she will be able to be my disciple.'" Though researchers say the relic does not appear to be a forgery, it doesn't mean Jesus was actually married. It indicates, though, that there was discussion amid early Christians about whether Jesus was married or celibate, and which path his faithful should pursue. [Source]
