Woman trapped in car with 5-year-old dies after 911 dispatching error
1/18/2013An Arkansas woman called 911 after a car accident, but an error by the operator may have contributed to her death. Jinglei Yi lost control of her car on an icy road and drove into a pond. She and her 5-year-old son were trapped in the vehicle when she called for help. The 911 operator reportedly neglected to enter the call into the computerized dispatching system — an ambulance was called, but police and firefighters didn't learn of Yi's accident until 30 minutes later. The operator has been placed on paid leave but has "not been charged with any wrongdoing." Yi later died in the hospital; her son is in critical condition. [Source]
