Lawmaker fact checks 'Lincoln,' finds major factual error
2/6/2013Connecticut Rep. Joe Courtney is calling out DreamWorks on a not-so-teeny historical blunder in "Lincoln" that he says tarnishes the nutmeg state's good name. Turns out Connecticut representatives voted "yay," not "nay" on the anti-slavery amendment. Rep. Courtney says watching his state vote "no" just didn't sit right with him as he screened the flick over the weekend. A quick internet check confirmed his suspicions. After the Congressional Research Service confirmed his suspicions, Rep. Courtney dashed off a letter asking DreamWorks to correct this "distortion of easily verifiable facts" before releasing the DVD. Forget penning Oscar speeches, Spielberg, it's time for some award-winning crisis management (and budget for a fact checker). [Source]
