Hiker wakes up to find 'playful puppy' in dream is a bear

Hiker John Steitz had a vivid dream while napping in the shade on a Minnesota trail Tuesday. “I was playing with a dog. The dog was jumping on me, scratching me, licking my face -- the playful puppy thing,” he says. Steitz awoke to discover it was no puppy. “I opened my eyes, and there was a bear on top of me with its face in my face,” he says. Steitz and a pal managed to scare the bear away, but it didn’t exactly beat a hasty retreat. “He walked slowly and stopped every few feet to look back,” Steitz recalls.
