John Wilkinson, rhythm guitarist for Elvis Presley, dies at 67
1/12/2013John Wilkinson, the rhythm guitarist who performed with Elvis Presley more than 1,200 times, died Friday night at the age of 67. Wilkinson first met Presley at age 10 by sneaking into the star's dressing room and memorably telling him, "You can't play guitar worth a damn." Thirteen years later, Presley saw Wilkinson perform on television and recruited him to be part of his band without realizing that Wilkinson had insulted him more than a decade before. Family friend Gary Ellison said Wilkinson, who died after a fight with cancer, loved to tell the story of how he first met Presley. [Source]
