Former U.S. Marine stands guard at elementary school

12/19/2012

While some anxious parents are packing their kids off to school with bullet proof backpacks in the wake of the Newtown massacre, kids in Nashville, Tenn., have a much more human sort of protection. Real live former Marine Jordan Pritchard, who served in Afghanistan, is voluntarily guarding Gower Elementary School. OK, he's unarmed (remember, schools are supposed to be gun-free zones), but parents are thrilled.  Why's he doing it? Sure, he's got a first and second grader inside, but he says, "If you are able and capable of doing something you have the responsibility to act," adding that there's "no job in the world that can pay me enough money to not do things for the kids and for the parents."
