Chilean artist Selarón found dead on stairs that made him famous
1/11/2013Chilean artist Jorge Selarón was found dead by police Thursday on his namesake masterpiece, the 215-step "Escadaria Selarón" staircase outside his home in Rio de Janeiro. Cops believe Selarón died under "suspicious" circumstances and haven't ruled out suicide or murder. Selarón spent more than 20 years creating the staircase, and many of the tiles he incorporated into the piece were salvaged from old bathtubs or donated. "He changed the face of Rio. His death is something brutish that makes no sense," a friend said. [Source]
