Congressman pushes bill to let presidents stay in office forever

1/6/2013

Congressman Jose Serrano (D-N.Y.) has introduced a bill that advocates letting U.S. presidents stay in office, well, forever. Also known as H.J.Res 15, the bill proposes amending the Constitution to repeal the 22nd Amendment, which bars a president from serving more than two terms in office. Tea Party types have predictably gone nuts about it, but don’t start waving any "Obama forever!" flags just yet, folks. Serrano has introduced this bill at every Congress since 2001 (i.e. he did it when Bush was in office, too), and every time it dies a lonely death. And even if it didn’t, the Constitution would still require the approval of both the House, the Senate and three-fourths of the states. Um, not gonna happen. [Source]
